While thousands flocked to get a last look at former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK patron M Karunanidhi, who died on Tuesday evening, his party members and opposition AIADMK were fighting over a burial site in the court.
DMK after Kalaignar's death had sought for a burial space at Marina Beach near his mentor CN Annadurai's memorial, which was denied by the ruling party stating only chief ministers who had office are allowed a site there.
They had instead offered the site near the Gandhi Mandapam, which also has the memorials to other chief ministers of the state K Kamaraj and C Rajagopalachari. This did not go well with the DMK members who called for a midnight hearing. The ugly battle continued till Wednesday morning when the court decided that M Karunanidhi will be given a burial site at Marina Beach.
